So I’ve changed the name of the site and podcast. From here on out it will be known as Driving Common Sense. Why? Because I was trying to do too much. As I’ve already explained that I was going to create different feeds for different shows but that is just too time consuming for me. With driving 6 days and 5 nights a week and only getting to spend a measley 36 hours on average with my family doing managing multiple feeds really sucks time out of what little I have. This way I can write, record and do preproduction all in the truck while off line through the week. Then I can get home on the weekend and just push everything right to GIthub and be done. One feed to rule them all!
As I am sitting here writing this I am sitting in a dock in Spring Lake, MI getting loaded. I may record this tonight or tomarrow evening. I’ll tell you where I am at that time. So lets talk about the new name.
Driving Common Sense just made sense to me. Yes, I did do a brief blog by that name a few years ago but it was all about the actual act of driving. I had intended it to become something similar to the Smith System and was actually hoping to open a mentorship program with new drivers for training. But I ditched the idea when life got a little more complicated and I didnt have the time to do it. But now the name has really come to mean much more to me with the way society has become.
Politics The political incivility is horrendous and the fighting and bickering back and forth is reaching new heights that we havent yet seen in our current lifetimes. There doesnt really seem to be any common sense or middle ground that is accepted by anyone on any side. You are either hard left or hard right and the other side is always wrong…on everything. No one has an open mind and the ones who say theirs is open are lying because they are only open to what they believe. “Science is fact and you have to go with it” until the science contradicts what they want it to say. Then science is wrong or must be changed. Or the other side says “My religion is right and you must believe” until it contradicts itself and then they just ignore it and move on. I know just from my trips across the country that there is many more just like me. Thousands, perhaps even millions of people that just want to get along in life. Make some money, provide for the family and basically live life the best they can. They dont need millions of dollars to do that. They know that you just have to be happy with yourself. Which leads me to the next point.
The Meaning of Life No its not 42. But depending on your religous views that could mean so many different things. But the one thing that everybody needs to know is the secret. That secret to being happy and having a rewarding life is in all of us already. The secret is that you have to be happy with yourself. Who you are as an individual. When you wake up in the morning or evening depending on your work schedule. Are you happy to just wake up? Do you want to jump out of bed and just do something? No? Well then something is wrong. And if you are taking that hate and discontent and channelling into politics then you are doing more harm to others. I want to explore how to avoid this kind of breakdown and help myself to be a better human being and if I help you along the way then I guess I did something good.
Scratching My Itch You may ask yourself, “Why the hell is this guy podcasting and blogging?” Well to be honest I like to do it. If you want to listen and read then by all means you are welcome to do it. But I’m maily doing it because I like to produce audio and build some websites. I’m not really an artsy kind of guy but I do like eye and ear candy. And if I can learn how to make the eye and ear candy then I am even more intrigued. This is another reason I changed the name. Its a topic I want to talk about. Technology whether its computers, operating systems, phones, tablets, recording interfaces, etc. I love it and am into reading and learning everything I can about it.
I can still talk about trucking Since its what I live in all week I still want to talk about driving. Whether its safety tips, where to stop, where to eat or even the random interview with another driver on the road. Doing it under Driving Common Sense is going to be the best road to take.
